FULL TRUCKLOAD RATES KANSAS CITY
Truckload freight is the movement of cargo that occupies more than half and up to the full capacity of a trailer.
Due to the various challenges associated with shipments, persons who are seeking to transport their cargo have a hard task in establishing what constitutes a ‘full’ truck? Most shippers are usually business persons who are typically keen on minimizing transportation costs.
When you contract for full truckload (FTL) freight you are required to pay for the whole vehicle whether you fill it or not, unlike in less than a truckload (LTL) where the company mixes goods from different customers in one trailer, and you are only required to pay for the quantity you want to be shipped. The calculation of full truckload rates can vary depending on which company is handling your products. Also the US Department of Transportation has limits on single axels, but generally the total weight of the vehicle must not exceed 80,000 lbs. This weight includes the cargo, fuel, and all persons on board. The pressure must then be distributed with the driver’s cabin taking 12,000 lbs. and the mid and rear tires share a spread of 17,000 lbs. each.
The maximum weight common rules that govern the full truckload rates in the United States and Kansas City in particular are:
- 44,000 lbs. of the product
- 2,500 cubic ft. of the product
- 48 standard pallets that have a measurement of 40” width and 48” length footprint
FACTORS THAT DETERMINE THE RATE
The shape of your product
The form of your package would determine what space it covers in the trailer, where the surface to volume ratio also comes into play with products that have a symmetrical shape covering a small area and thus can be stacked together to fit a small space as compared to products with asymmetrical shapes which include a large area. Size can also be used hand in hand with form since they relate to the aspect of the area that would be covered by the goods.
The weight of the product
Kansas City full truckload rates are determined by calculating the size and weight of your product, the heavier the product, the less the amount you are likely to carry because the pressure is added to the other weight parameters of the vehicle.
The trailer Dimensions
The way the truck is put together will also be a factor in distributing the weight in line with the State Department of Transportation limits and how the load can be positioned over the axles.
Distance
The distance the cargo will cover also determines the rates that will be paid. The shorter, the lower the price and longer distances also accrue higher rates due to the factor of increased risk and other associated factors such as driver’s pay and fuel costs. The advantage of using full truckloads is goods will take a short time to be transported, and there would be no handling of products in freight thus less risk.
